🥗 Diet Tracker — Privacy Policy

Short version: Your data stays on your device and optionally in your own Google account. We don't collect, sell, or share your personal information with anyone.
1. What Data We Collect
Diet Tracker collects only the data you enter directly into the app:
- Your name and calorie target (entered during setup)
- Daily food log — meals, calories, macros you log
- Checklist completion data (daily habits)
- Water intake, step count, exercise log
- Weight entries and weight goal
- Health condition selections (e.g. diabetes, BP)
- Health notes you write
- Gemini API key (stored locally, never sent to our servers)
2. Where Your Data Is Stored
- On your device: All data is stored in your browser's localStorage by default. It never leaves your device unless you sign in with Google.
- Google Account (optional): If you sign in with Google, your data is synced to Firebase Firestore under your own Google account. You can delete it anytime by signing out and using "Reset All Data" in Settings.
3. Google Sign-In
We use Google Sign-In (via Firebase Authentication) to allow you to sync your data across devices. When you sign in:
- We receive your Google profile name and email address
- This is used only to identify your data in Firestore
- We do not store your Google password
- You can sign out at any time from the app sidebar
4. AI Features (Gemini API)
The Photo Scan and Meal Plan Generator features use Google's Gemini AI API. When you use these features:
- Your food photo or calorie target is sent directly to Google's Gemini API
- This uses your own personal Gemini API key (from aistudio.google.com)
- We do not proxy, store, or see this data
- Google's own privacy policy applies to Gemini API usage
5. Barcode Scanner
When you scan a barcode, the barcode number is sent to Open Food Facts (world.openfoodfacts.org), a free public food database. No personal information is sent — only the barcode number.
6. Analytics & Advertising
We collect zero analytics. There are no advertisements. We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any third-party tracking tools.
7. Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or share your personal data with any third party. The only external services used are:
- Firebase (Google) — for optional cloud sync if you sign in
- Google Gemini API — for AI features, using your own API key
- Open Food Facts — for barcode lookups (barcode number only)
8. Data Deletion
You can delete all your data at any time:
- Open the app → ☰ Sidebar → ⚙️ Settings → "Reset All My Data"
- This clears all local data and Firebase cloud data permanently
9. Children's Privacy
This app is designed for adults managing their diet and health. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
10. Changes to This Policy
If we make significant changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
